My INDIA: Home to the ancient Indus Valley Civilisation and a region of historic trade routes and vast empires, the Indian subcontinent was identified with its commercial and cultural wealth for much of its long history. Four of the world's major religions—Hinduism, Buddhism,Jainism and Sikhism—originated here, while Zoroastrianism, Judaism, Christianity and Islam arrived in the first millennium CE and shaped the region's diverse culture. India is a federal constitutional republic with a parliamentary democracy consisting of 28 states and seven union territories. A pluralistic, multilingual and multiethnic society, India is also home to a diversity of wildlife in a variety of protected habitats. The Indian economy is the world's eleventh largest economy by nominal GDP and the fourth largest by purchasing power parity. Since the introduction of market-based economic reforms in 1991, India has become one of the fastest growing major economies in the world; however, the country continues to face several poverty, illiteracy, corruption and public health related challenges. India is classified as a newly industrialised country and is one of the four BRICnations. It is a nuclear weapons state and has the third-largest standing armed force in the world, while its military expenditure ranks tenth in the world. It is a founding member of the United Nations, the Non-Aligned Movement, the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation, the East Asia Summit and the G20 industrial nations, and a member of the Commonwealth of Nations and the G8+5.
I am proud of being an Indian. I currently live in USA for my studies. But after coming here and staying for 4 years, I am still wondering about India. The incredible India, our country is so rich, so beautiful, so diverse. It is still the richest country in the world apart from reports based on specific criteria. The common man knows much more than a scientist in other countries know. The balance of life, the struggle for life, the management of the people, the roads, the streets, the public transportation. Only India could do this, while supporting her huge population. The free hospitals, low cost transportation, subsidies, it is incredible. It may not be the best in the world in statistics, but it is certainly the richest country in the world based on its warmth. I love India.
ReplyDeleteI would recommend more transparency in our political system....There should be at least some minimum qualification for somebody to become the minister or PM...India is progressing....But the money is going into to the pockets of corrupt politicians and the richest and none has been used in the development of nation or the uplift of the common people in this country....The pay scale should be made uniform throughout the country and the state gov should be less power and the central gov more power in the finacial matters of the state...
ReplyDeleteI agree with what Varun is saying, the problem with India is absence of a leader or a system which is feared by all or revered by all. There are laws for catching the corrupt but how many of them are punished. If Indian government pass a law how many follow them, the punishments are not severe and so many are escaped through loopholes. This should change, a law should be law and people should not revoke it. The punishments should be severe for both the politicians as well as the poor. unless that comes into force, corruption will be there and lawlessness will prevail.
ReplyDeleteI was wondering about pseudo patriotism by Indians abroad. It came to my mind when I saw some cars with Indian number plate in USA. That is a clear violation of the Indian Flag code according to law in India. But I don't know if it is in USA. My concerns was (1) The Indian flag as number plate is clearly under the car logo which is not permitted (2) The number plate in the front is a position which is going to be dirty by insects and mud (3) there are 4 holes on the number plate (Indian flag). That is the law, but morally why do some one want to show patriotism in number plate. It they are really patriotic they should go back to India and do something for the country. How many people sacrificed life for flying the Indian flag. Why these laggards can't understand that? When I talked to them the reply was " I will sleep on the Flag, I will make underwear using it". What can I say? Idiots, pseudo patriots!
